I am cubed.
I find it is very difficult to be locked away in an office during the summer. This is when I think about teaching again. Even though it is so wonderful to be able to “clock out” at the end of the day, my freedom always seems compromised. Being on the fourth floor and having my window looking over the Mississippi every day only adds to the feeling.
So close, yet so far.
I’ve started writing more often and I have a new short story/essay that I’m excited about. That hasn’t happened in a while (writing / excitement about my own writing). It started when I was writing in my journal (Thanks, CW–I’m still using it) and it was like my mind and pen went crazy with ideas. I love when that happens!
In other news…
The Iowa State Fair is coming soon! It is like a county fair on acid. My favorite parts are the butter sculptures and all of the deep-fried delicacies. Although I heard that the “new” food this year is grilled pineapple on a stick. I plan to stick with the deep-fried Snickers, thank you very much.
Last, but not least. CE and I received second place at a work Bean Bag Championship. Much blood and sweat was shed in the great near-victory.
Sadly, we got our asses handed to us by two interns. We drowned our sorrows afterwards with vodka lemonade and PBR.
